Citadel. The north-western part of the summit of Ḥuṣn al-Ghurāb is occupied with the ruins of what was, in all probability, the fortress ‘Urr Mawiyat. The entrance to the fortress was from the north-west where remains of fortifications (a wall with gates), could be traced. About 20 buildings constituted the fortress. On the top of Ḥuṣn al-Ghurāb was a huge structure, which was partly excavated in 1972, and could be identified as a lighthouse for incoming ships (Fig. 4.2–4.5; Fig. 4.3a).There are four huge water-tanks on the summit of Ḥuṣn al-Ghurāb in addition to the ruins of the fortress and lighthouse. They are rectangular or square in shape, and 6 × 12; 12 × 12; 4 × 14 m in size.
